World Hanky Panky Day
25.03.26
A celebration of a classic London cocktail, its creator, and her legacy
Ada Coleman
Each March, we celebrate World Hanky Panky Day, a global toast to Ada Coleman the pioneering bartender behind London’s legendary Hanky Panky cocktail.
But it’s more than a drink. It’s a story of innovation, resilience, and the women who’ve shaped cocktail culture ever since. Join bars and drinkers around the world in honouring Ada’s spirit by mixing, sharing, and raising a glass to female bartenders everywhere.
“It is such a full circle moment to be able to be part of World Hanky Panky Day. Having started my career at the American Bar, Ada Coleman truly led and paved the way for me and many women in the drinks industry.
So while this is a nod to the past, it really is a look towards the future of women in the drinks industry. World Hanky Panky Day is the perfect way to celebrate and raise a toast”
The Celebration
On the 25th March each year, we raise a glass to the legacy of Ada Coleman and celebrate with some of the world’s best bars to drink a Hanky Panky in her honour.
But World Hanky Panky Day celebrates more than just one drink. It also shines a spotlight on the women who bring innovation, grace, and grit to the hospitality world today.
Participating bars will feature female-led menus, and celebrate Hospitality spaces that honour both equality and creativity.
The Recipe
Dating back over 100 years, the original recipe is an iconic blend of Gin, Vermouth and Bitters.
Bold, rich and complex, and a timeless classic;
45ml London Dry Gin
45ml Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes Fernet
Orange zest to garnish
The Venues
Each venue will run a Hanky Panky Day menu showcasing a British Hanky Panky, alongside a Bartender’s choice of their own take on the classic drink.
The British version, of this iconic London cocktail, is made with Asterley Bros Vermouth & Fernet alongside Cygnet Gin. For the very first time in history, a quintessentially British Hanky Panky serve is possible.
“This iconic cocktail, born and raised in the Capital much like Asterley Bros, is a symbol of inclusion and diversity in the global bar scene, and one that underlines the huge contribution made by female bartenders.
We love the layers of complexity and symbolism in the Hanky Panky and with Asterley Bros’ Britannica Fernet it’s finally possible to serve up a 100% British expression for the very first time”
